Nikolic, Paviuso Insirovie and Jelka Kljajic — have now been in jail for 1B months. Originally tried and jailed last year, their appeais have been continuaily postponad by the Yugoslav regime Ir is understandable that the Yugoslav bureaucracy should be unwilling to draw attention to this case ai present. It is faced with an acute economic crisis which has resulted in a massive export of labour, a million unem ployed, rampant inflation, a chronic housing shortage and cut-bacas in social airbicos and eduction. Thi number of strikes is on the increase. And, the technocratic layer, which has thrived on the trends towards a market economy, is now also a threat to the position o the bureaucracy. The latter has therefore engaged in a spate of 'lefe" propaganda against "bureaucratism', "'tech notacy!, 'unjustified enrichment' etc. - but without spacitying how to ast rid of them.

In fact the only people who have made such an analysis are the revolutionary marxists - now accused by the bureaucracy of a 'criminal ideology'. As Nikolic has witten from his prison cell! "There can be no socialism under a market economy subject to vicious competition; socialist democracy and sell-menagement cannot be built at the same time as the representative role of the state grows; workers" self-menagement is meaningless without workers taking part anal amparant dos making and with a ruting party completely outside the warkers" control... Recent events at one of Peru's riches copper mines, Cuajone, indicere that the Periwian working class is rapidly losing aury fusions it may have hed in the Valasco regime. The Coajone mine is owmed by Americar capital, Last December, some 700 milen working on new excavations were laid off, and then eweted from their company-awned houses. The warkers refused to lave the mine, and the company retaliared by stopping any money or supplies reaching in January the worker tanched a hunger-strike in protest, and on 5 March they marchad to the prowin ciat centre of Arequipa to present chair demanda to the focal euthoririas. The government replied by arresting the secracary of thair trade umion and deporting him to Parama.

The lefe face of the Peruvian military dietatorship is now exposed for the phony mast ir has advays been. The fight of the Cuajone miners, and the wave of solidarity suruglas ir har touched off, shaws the why forward to mobilising the Parivian masmis for the destruction of this goverament.
